Hello, this is Teracy, developers of the next-generation virtual office.

Recently, Teracy released a new feature called "LiveStatus". This feature doesn't add a particularly new or groundbreaking experience. It allows you to share status and situations with colleagues working in the same place, which was taken for granted when working in an office. "LiveStatus" is an experience necessary for working with colleagues in a more natural state.

Spending Time Naturally in the Same Place

In many cases, we create places to spend time with our companions while paying for travel time, money, and the cost of buying or renting a place. This is true not only for work but also for living with family. People spend time in the same place because it's worth gathering, even if they have to pay a certain cost to gather.

Working Together with Colleagues

When we gather at the office to work with colleagues, or when we work together at a cafe on weekends, no one explicitly shares what they're doing, but colleagues generally understand what situation each person is in. Knowing these things about each other creates a sense of security for ourselves and our colleagues in all aspects.

What Offices Have That Remote Work Doesn't

What if an office only had private rooms? Throughout the day, no one would know what you're doing, and you wouldn't know what your colleagues are doing. We would feel very uncomfortable.

If it were an office for individual work... Wouldn't you feel there's no need to go to the office in such a situation? You might think remote work would suffice.

This conclusion is perhaps the "current state of remote work."

In today's world, the optimal solution for knowing what colleagues are doing and what state they're in has not been found other than spending time in the same offline location.

Even if it costs a lot of time and money, doing so is probably the fastest and most reliable method.

In fact, we felt the same way until now.

As If You're Right Next to Each Other, Even When Apart

Teracy has always aimed to create software that blends into life.

Human, natural, and not overly demanding of attention

This is the philosophy we value when creating our product.

So we decided to re-examine how communication should be when colleagues are in separate situations.

What have we gained through remote work? What has been lost compared to commuting to the office? What do users want and not want? We took time to fundamentally reconsider what's important when working as a team from all perspectives.

As a result, we recognized that the current state of remote work makes it quite difficult to work in sync with colleagues and do better work.

1. Communication costs due to the vast amount of text in chat tools (including documents)

2. Voice tools that cause too much stress if connected continuously like in an office

3. Push-type phone calls and mentions that deliver sudden notifications

Every element of every tool feels uncomfortable for ideal remote communication, and the current world is forcibly operating in this state. Because of being apart and not knowing what others are doing, we were spending a lot of unnecessary time visualizing and sharing that process rather than on actual work.

Amidst this, Teracy has been continuously seeking best practices for syncing with distant colleagues.

Colleagues can know what you're doing without you having to write it yourself. Until now, many virtual office services typically required manual input. However, due to the small benefit compared to the cost of writing, it quickly became a formality, and only a few people could continue.

So, to realize "living naturally with colleagues" and "always receiving real-time, raw information," we have set up a system that creates speed and a sense of security for the team by utilizing device information and automating to reduce the cost of status sharing to zero.

"LiveStatus" is the foundation for all experiences we will release in the future. The most important role of this feature is to eliminate unnecessary efforts and anxieties that were not needed in the office, allowing focus and time to be spent on what's necessary.

A Little Margin in Busy Days

I believe that in any era, for any living being, what we must continually face in life is the finiteness of time.

In limited time, who do we spend it with and how do we live? For startups, how do we change the world with the time we have left? What do we offer to users and what better future do we create? Isn't gathering with colleagues about making a bigger impact on society in a shorter period?

Even from a monetary cost perspective, the final point of discussion is time. Time disappears even if you're doing nothing but breathing in and out. Many of the things we spend money on are not objects but time. Especially for many of you reading this now, isn't "work = what positive impact do I have on society"? Isn't improving work time about changing the world?

Eliminating truly unnecessary efforts and creating a little margin in your life (work). Through "LiveStatus," we hope a little time and peace of mind will be born.
