Hello, this is Teracy, developing the next generation virtual office. Since the spread of COVID-19, the world has changed significantly, and remote work environments have become common. However, this has highlighted remote-specific challenges such as communication cost debt. Labi Inc., which operates the entertainment healthcare service "Luna," was one of the companies facing these challenges. In this article, we interviewed Labi Inc. about how they solved these issues.

Taisuke Kurita, CEO of Labi
After starting a business in affiliate marketing/product sales at the age of 16, he launched a B2C business but failed. This led him to intern at multiple B2C companies to learn about PM and organization. He also worked as a freelance UI/UX designer. In 2023, he founded Labi Inc. and launched the entertainment healthcare service "Luna" and B2C business design consulting.

Shunsuke Morii, CEO of Teracy
Started a business while in school, launched food businesses, sales agency businesses, and a matching service for organizers in the food industry, which was later transferred. After traveling the world, he founded his second company, Rebase Inc., which was sold to United Inc. (listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth Market) in June 2021. Since 2019, he has been developing "Teracy" in stealth mode, and accelerated investment to found Teracy Inc. as his third company.

"We want to improve people's daily lives through the power of technology and design"

Kurita, the CEO of Labi developing Luna, is a talented and passionate entrepreneur who, at just 20 years old, is involved in writing UI/UX newsletters and product development. Recently, he decided to introduce "Teracy," a next-generation synchronous communication tool for remote work teams. This decision is about to greatly change the way his team operates.

The Deep Fog of Remote Work: Overcoming Invisible Walls

Labi Inc. is a small team of six members, including full-time and part-time workers. Working in a remote environment spanning Tokyo and Osaka, Kurita felt like he was walking through fog.

  1. "I couldn't see what members were doing now"

  2. "I felt a bit anxious in an environment where I couldn't talk casually"

  3. "A sense that communication debt was accumulating"

"We gathered at the office once a week, but otherwise it was completely remote. In emergencies, we used LINE, which was a rather half-baked situation."

Existing Tools Didn't Work Well

They tried famous virtual office tools like Gather and oVice, but each had its pros and cons.

  • "It's troublesome to open a browser"

  • "Members forget to use it"

  • "In the end, everyone goes back to Slack"

As Kurita wandered in search of the ideal tool, he learned about Teracy on X (formerly Twitter).

Teracy Creates a "Natural Flow" - A Magical Tool

"To be honest, I was surprised when I tried it,"

Kurita's eyes sparkle.

"No need for a web browser, convenient shortcuts, smooth automatic login. Especially the Wave function was revolutionary."

Wave function: Seamless conversation with teammates with one tap

Teracy quickly blended into the team's daily routine.

  • Regular meetings (completely switched from Zoom)

  • Casual call-outs (Wave function)

  • Focused work (quiet work sessions)

"The equation of work = Teracy naturally formed. Now, all team communications take place on Teracy."

Conversations Increased 5-fold, Misunderstandings Disappeared

Kurita spoke with passion:

"Since introducing Teracy, the amount of conversation has increased by about 5 times, misunderstandings have almost disappeared, and I feel the sense of communication debt disappearing."

Not only was it well-received by full-time members, but the active use by part-time members was also a pleasant surprise.

"When I see part-time members on Teracy, it warms my heart. I feel they have a sense of belonging to the team."

Moreover, Teracy also serves as an attendance management tool. An implicit understanding that "When working for Labi, use Teracy" has emerged.

Seeking More Natural "Connections"

Kurita's spirit of inquiry doesn't stop. As a product entrepreneur, he has specific improvement suggestions for Teracy:

  1. One-click "away" status display

  2. Sound quality on par with Zoom

  3. Stable automatic login after updates

  4. Ability to enter meeting rooms with shortcuts

"It would be great if there was a mobile version. I'd like to see a world where we can connect with the team even while on the move."

"If there was an environment where external plugins could be created, it would be great if Teracy fans could create tools like minute-taking or work music functions."

Regarding the one-click "away" status display, we responded immediately after receiving the feedback, and it's now a feature available to everyone. Also, Teracy is currently in the midst of developing a mobile app. Teracy is realizing the ideal way of working that Kurita seeks.

Coexistence of Connection and Productivity, Towards a New Way of Working

"If Teracy disappeared... we might have to increase office attendance (laughs)"

Although Kurita speaks jokingly, his words carry weight. Teracy holds the potential to deepen team bonds while solving remote work challenges.

Kurita, who values practicality, has been recommending Teracy to other entrepreneurs around him. This fact might be proof that Teracy holds value beyond just being "convenient."

How will Teracy's evolution redraw the future of work? The challenges of new-generation entrepreneurs like Kurita will show us the answer.

Announcement from Labi

Kurita: At Labi Inc., we are currently developing an entertainment healthcare service called luna. As an overview of the service, for example, a goal like dieting involves multiple tasks such as meal management and weight recording. However, in the current market, apps exist fragmentarily, and the experience is complicated as multiple apps are used for a single goal. Moreover, it's difficult to form habits even with a single app. To solve these issues, we are trying to create an experience that's 10x better than conventional ones by:

  • Bundling all healthcare apps

  • Supporting habit formation through social/game elements

We feel the potential market is large and we can compete globally. We're looking for people who can fight together with us, so please feel free to contact me via DM! We're especially looking for Flutter engineers/interns!

After the Interview

As a creator, I felt joy in seeing that Kurita, an entrepreneur creating the next generation, is creating a new way of working through Teracy. Creating the next way of working together with such early enthusiastic users. Once again, it was a time that strengthened such feelings.
